An overnight downpour has disrupted transportation and daily activities in Sandema in the Builsa North Municipality of the Upper East Region, with floodwaters submerging sections of a major road and affecting homes and properties.
The heavy rainfall caused drains to overflow, leaving parts of the Chuchuliga–Sandema road inundated and making movement difficult for motorists, commuters and other road users.
Residents reported that the flooding affected several homes and properties, while travellers faced delays and hazardous conditions along the affected route.
The submerged road has raised concerns about accessibility, particularly if additional rainfall occurs in the coming days.
Authorities are expected to conduct an assessment to determine the extent of the damage caused by the flooding and identify any emergency interventions that may be required.
Road users have been advised to exercise caution when travelling through the affected areas, as water levels could rise further if the rains continue.
The flooding adds to growing concerns over the impact of heavy rainfall on road infrastructure and communities in parts of the Upper East Region during the rainy season.
