Dawn Robinson, a founding member of the iconic ’90s R&B group En Vogue, has opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her life—one that has led her to embrace an unconventional way of living.
In a candid YouTube video shared on Tuesday, Robinson revealed that she has been living in her car for nearly three years. Rather than viewing it as a setback, she sees it as a journey of self-discovery and resilience.
“For the past three, almost three years, I have been living in my car,” she confessed, letting out a nervous squeal before adding, “I said it. Oh my God, it’s out!”
The singer explained that her situation unfolded after moving in with her parents in Las Vegas in 2020. When that arrangement didn’t work out, she found herself without stable housing and briefly stayed with a co-manager in Los Angeles. However, due to limited space, she eventually transitioned to hotel living before exploring the idea of residing in her vehicle.
Rather than focusing on hardship, Robinson described her new lifestyle as freeing. Through research, she discovered a growing community of individuals who have chosen to live in their vehicles, turning it into an alternative way of life.
“I felt free. I felt like I was on a camping trip,” she recalled of her initial adjustment in 2022.
She emphasized that her decision to share this experience wasn’t about seeking sympathy but about inspiring others to embrace unexpected life changes with resilience and optimism.
“It’s not ‘woe is me,’” she said. “I’m learning about who I am, I’m learning myself as a person, as a woman.”
Now, Robinson is documenting her unconventional lifestyle, calling it an “adventure” and an “unexpected path that I’ve enjoyed quite a bit.”
Through her journey, the former En Vogue star is redefining success and happiness on her own terms—proving that life’s detours can sometimes lead to the most profound discoveries.
