The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has intensified its anti-corruption efforts with the issuance of a wanted notice for Ernest Darko Akore, a former Chef de Cabinet and Technical Advisor at Ghana’s Ministry of Finance, over his alleged role in the controversial Revenue Assurance Contract between the Ministry and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).
The move, which underscores the OSP’s renewed determination to hold high-profile figures accountable, follows an arrest warrant issued by the High Court – Criminal Division, in the case Republic v. Ernest D. Akore (Suit No. 05/0397/2023).
In an official statement, the OSP described the 67-year-old former official as being of brown complexion, with black eyes and black hair. Mr. Akore, born on February 5, 1958, is believed to hold dual Ghanaian-American citizenship and may currently be residing in the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, or South Africa.
The OSP is appealing to the public for assistance in locating Mr. Akore, urging anyone with credible information to contact its offices via calls or WhatsApp messages on 0554484498 or 0554484488.
This latest development comes amid ongoing investigations into the SML Revenue Assurance Contract — a deal that has faced intense public scrutiny over allegations of inflated fees, irregular procurement procedures, and possible breaches of the Public Financial Management Act.
The OSP reaffirmed that its pursuit of the case forms part of a broader national effort to strengthen integrity and accountability in public financial management. It further reminded the public that Mr. Akore remains innocent until proven guilty by a competent court.
The declaration marks another bold step by the OSP under its mandate to investigate and prosecute corruption and corruption-related offences, especially in high-level transactions involving state resources.
Observers say the case could serve as a critical test of Ghana’s commitment to transparency in public contracts and the independence of the Special Prosecutor’s office in tackling corruption without fear or favour.
