Former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, has reportedly passed away at the Ridge Hospital in Accra early this morning.
According to close family sources, she died after a short illness. Official details regarding the circumstances of her passing are yet to be made public.
Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, was a trailblazing political figure and a staunch advocate for women’s rights in Ghana. As First Lady from 1981 to 2001, she played a significant role in shaping the country’s political and social landscape.
She was the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP) and the visionary behind the 31st December Women’s Movement — an initiative that worked to empower women and improve the welfare of children nationwide.
Her death comes nearly four years after the passing of her husband, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, who died in November 2020.
Further information, including official confirmation and funeral arrangements, is expected to be announced in the coming days.
