As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intensifies preparations for its January 2026 flagbearer primaries, Louisa Iris Arde, former Municipal Chief Executive for Jomoro, has publicly declared her support for former Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Bryan Acheampong.
In a statement announcing her decision, Ms. Iris Arde confirmed that she has stepped away from the campaign team of former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to align herself with Dr. Acheampong’s bid to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
She explained that her decision was guided by a desire to see the NPP reposition itself for victory, describing Dr. Acheampong as a leader with the energy, discipline, and strategic focus needed to unite the party and energise its grassroots base.
According to her, Dr. Acheampong’s approach to the campaign, characterised by unity, decency, and broad appeal within the party, makes him a strong contender capable of reconnecting with core supporters and attracting wider national support.
“I took this decision out of my deep love for the NPP, a party that gave me the opportunity to serve my people as MCE for Jomoro,” she stated, adding that she believes Dr. Acheampong’s leadership style and vision position him well to lead the party into the future.
Ms. Iris Arde also pledged her full commitment to what she described as Dr. Acheampong’s “restoration project,” signalling her readiness to actively support his campaign as the internal contest gathers momentum.
While reaffirming her respect for Dr. Bawumia, whom she previously worked closely with, she noted that her support for Dr. Acheampong is based on her conviction about who can best deliver electoral success for the NPP in 2028.
She concluded by calling on party members, executives, and sympathisers to rally behind Dr. Bryan Acheampong, describing him as a candidate well-suited to the present needs of the party and its future electoral ambitions.
The NPP is expected to select its presidential candidate in January 2026, two years ahead of Ghana’s next general elections in 2028.
