Guatemalan midfielder Derrickson Quiros has shifted his attention back to his professional career after confirming the end of his engagement—just days after a widely celebrated on-field proposal.
The romantic gesture took place at Estadio Mario Camposeco following Club Xelajú’s 4–2 victory over Deportivo Marquense in Guatemala’s top division. With fans still in the stands, Quiros went down on one knee, drawing cheers and applause in what quickly became a viral social media moment.
He later shared footage of the proposal online, expressing his love and referring to his partner as his “life partner,” a post that attracted significant public attention.
However, in a subsequent Instagram statement reported by Latinus, Quiros confirmed that the relationship had come to an end. Describing it as a “difficult personal situation,” he emphasised that he would handle the matter with respect and maturity, declining to disclose further details.
His former fiancée also responded publicly, posting a brief message suggesting that silence was the best response.
Closing his statement, Quiros made it clear that his priority now is football. He thanked supporters for their understanding and asked for privacy as he focuses on his team and personal growth.
The episode marks a swift and unexpected turn from celebration to reflection for the midfielder, who now appears determined to channel his energy back into the sport.
