A 23-year-old motorist who allegedly fled justice after a fatal road accident has been remanded into prison custody by a district court in the Ashanti Region.
The accused, Kwame Ebenezer, is facing charges of negligently causing harm, driving without a licence, and operating a vehicle without insurance. He is expected to reappear before the Toase District Court on April 21, 2026, as police await a testing officer’s report.
According to the prosecution, led by Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, the incident occurred on November 8, 2025, at Manso-Tetrem. The accused was allegedly riding an unregistered motorcycle when he knocked down a four-year-old girl, Richlove Adugyamfi, who was crossing the road.
The child sustained severe injuries and was initially treated at the Nkawie-Toase Government Hospital before being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, where she died the following day.
Police investigations revealed that after the incident was reported, the suspect was arrested and granted enquiry bail but later absconded. He remained in hiding until April 6, 2026, when he was re-arrested and subsequently arraigned before the court.
The case has drawn attention to concerns over road safety violations, particularly the operation of unregistered and uninsured vehicles, as well as the consequences of evading justice.
