The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has remembered Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala as a model officer whose life of service was defined by discipline, skill, and dedication to duty.
At a solemn Night of Memories and Reflections in Accra on Saturday, August 9, Air Commodore Mathias Awuah, delivering a tribute on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry of Defence, Suweibah Adam, described the late officer’s death as “an irreplaceable loss to the service and the nation.”
Commissioned into the Operations Branch on October 17, 2014, Squadron Leader Anala quickly distinguished himself through rigorous training in Ghana and abroad. His superiors hailed him as a meticulous professional who consistently executed missions with precision and reliability.
“His sudden departure is an irreplaceable loss to the service and the Ghana Armed Forces as a whole… Your duty is done, but your legacy endures forever,” the tribute stated.
Squadron Leader Anala was among the eight people who perished in the August 6 military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The Z-9 helicopter was on its way to Obuasi as part of a mission to explore strategies for combating illegal mining when it disappeared from radar.
While the crash has plunged Ghana into deep mourning, the Armed Forces have chosen to remember Anala not solely for the tragic circumstances of his death, but for the enduring example he set in life — one of quiet excellence, unyielding loyalty, and service to country above self.
