The collaboration, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), is expected to strengthen the Authority’s digital capabilities and modernise the way geological data is managed, analysed and interpreted in Ghana.
The one-year agreement will provide GGSA with a range of industry-leading software tools designed to enhance geological modelling, resource estimation and data integration.
Under the arrangement, the Authority will receive five annual subscriptions each for Leapfrog Geo and Leapfrog Edge, as well as annual subscriptions for Res2D/3D and Oasis Montaj, all widely used in geological interpretation and subsurface modelling.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director-General of the GGSA, Dr Prosper Akaba, said the partnership supports the Authority’s mission of promoting sustainable economic development through science-based decision-making.
He noted that strengthening digital geoscience capabilities would improve the institution’s ability to provide accurate geological information for national development and resource management.
West Africa Regional Manager of Seequent, Seth Miah, explained that the software package would equip GGSA’s technical teams with advanced tools to improve geological visualisation, interpretation and resource evaluation.
A major component of the partnership is capacity building. Both organisations have agreed to organise three specialised training programmes focused on Leapfrog software and modern digital geoscience workflows.
The training sessions will help GGSA personnel develop the skills needed to effectively utilise the software and integrate the technology into the Authority’s geological modelling and resource estimation activities.
The MoU also creates opportunities for future collaboration in areas such as research, development projects and other initiatives that promote innovation in geoscience. Any additional projects beyond the scope of the current agreement will be governed by separate arrangements.
As part of its commitments, GGSA will make personnel available for training, software deployment and evaluation exercises. The Authority will also collaborate with Seequent on a case study to document the impact and outcomes of the partnership.
Officials believe the initiative will significantly enhance Ghana’s geological data management systems and support more informed decision-making in the country’s natural resource sector.
