Ghana’s cedi has posted slight improvements against key foreign currencies, particularly the US dollar, although discrepancies between official and retail exchange rates continue to highlight the ongoing volatility in the country’s currency market.
According to the Central Bank of Ghana’s daily update, the cedi is trading at GH¢14.54 for buying and GH¢14.55 for selling against the US dollar. The British pound is priced at GH¢19.37 for buying and GH¢19.40 for selling, while the euro stands at GH¢16.54 for buying and GH¢16.56 for selling.
However, data gathered from various forex bureaus on the morning of April 28, 2025, shows significant variation in the retail exchange market. At these bureaus, the cedi is being exchanged at GH¢15.85 to the US dollar, GH¢21.00 for the British pound, and GH¢18.00 for the euro.
These differences underscore the fluctuating nature of Ghana’s currency exchange rates, reflecting the ongoing challenges in stabilizing the cedi against global currencies. While marginal gains are seen at some forex bureaus, retail market prices continue to show considerable disparities.
