Ghana has completed the exchange of the remaining outstanding SADEREA Notes, marking a major step towards concluding the country’s external debt restructuring programme.
The Ministry of Finance announced that the transaction was settled on Monday, July 13, 2026, with a value date of July 10, 2026, bringing the restructuring of Ghana’s sovereign bonded debt to its final outstanding stage.
The Ministry said the successful completion of the exchange reflects progress in government’s efforts to rebuild debt sustainability, strengthen investor confidence and restore stability in the economy.
The SADEREA Notes were originally issued to support capital expenditure in Ghana’s health sector and had a face value of US$253.2 million.
However, as of January 2026, about US$117.8 million in principal remained outstanding before the completion of the exchange.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the development demonstrates government’s commitment to implementing responsible debt management strategies and improving public financial management.
It said the completion of the transaction would contribute to Ghana’s broader economic recovery agenda by reducing pressure from outstanding debt obligations and creating a more sustainable fiscal environment.
The Ministry assured that government would continue pursuing policies aimed at protecting long-term economic stability and improving confidence in Ghana’s financial outlook.
The SADEREA Notes exchange adds to a series of restructuring measures undertaken by Ghana as part of efforts to address debt challenges and restore fiscal balance.
