The Government of Ghana has approved new visa waiver arrangements with Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia, in a move aimed at boosting international mobility and deepening diplomatic ties.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the development in a Facebook post on Wednesday, April 22, noting that Cabinet has given approval for the agreements to proceed.
He explained that the new arrangements are designed to simplify short-term travel between Ghana and the three partner countries, making cross-border visits easier for citizens.
According to him, the visa waiver will cover all categories of passports, including ordinary, service, and diplomatic passports.
Under the agreement, citizens of Ghana, Antigua and Barbuda, the Maldives, and Zambia will be allowed to visit one another’s countries for up to 30 days without the need to obtain a visa.
Mr Ablakwa added that the agreements will be submitted to Parliament for ratification in line with constitutional requirements before they take full effect.
He further indicated that government intends to continue pursuing similar visa facilitation agreements with other countries as part of efforts to enhance international cooperation and ease of travel.
At the same time, he noted that steps are being taken to strengthen the integrity and security of Ghana’s passport issuance system alongside the expanded travel arrangements.
