The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially opened nominations for its upcoming 2025 National and Regional Executive Elections, set for Monday, June 30, 2025. Starting today, May 16, aspiring candidates have until May 30 to submit their applications for various leadership positions across the Association’s national and regional structures.
The announcement, made by the Elections Committee chaired by Mr. Peter Martey Agbeko, signals the start of a key democratic exercise within one of Ghana’s most influential professional bodies. Positions available at the national level include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Affairs Officer—all serving three-year terms. Meanwhile, regional elections will select Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Secretaries, and Treasurers.
Candidates can access nomination forms after paying the stipulated fees, which vary by position—from GH₵5,000 for the presidency to GH₵1,000 for other regional roles. Payments are to be made to the GJA’s account at the National Investment Bank, Osu Branch. Prospective candidates must submit completed forms along with a recent passport-sized photograph with a red background.
The vetting process, designed to verify eligibility, will take place between June 3 and June 5, with national aspirants attending in person at the Ghana International Press Centre, while regional candidates will be vetted virtually.
Results from vetting will be announced on June 6, followed by balloting on June 9 to determine official candidates for the campaign period, which runs until June 28.
The Committee also revealed that the Voters Register will be published by May 30, with the full election calendar to be released on May 19.
The GJA’s Elections Committee emphasized its commitment to delivering a transparent and credible electoral process, with technical support and oversight from the Electoral Commission of Ghana. All stakeholders have been called upon to cooperate in upholding the democratic principles that underpin the Association.
Members passionate about contributing to the future leadership of the GJA are encouraged to participate actively in this electoral cycle to help shape the next phase of the Association’s growth and influence.
