The Government of Ghana has strengthened its commitment to prudent debt management after settling a US$700 million Eurobond obligation ahead of schedule, a move expected to bolster investor confidence and reinforce the country’s ongoing economic recovery efforts.
The Ministry of Finance announced that the payment was completed on Thursday, July 2, 2026, comprising US$525.2 million in principal repayments and US$174.8 million in interest payments.
The early settlement brings Ghana’s total payments to Eurobond holders to US$2.1 billion since January 2025 under the country’s Eurobond Debt Exchange Programme, reflecting government’s determination to honour its restructured debt obligations.
According to the Ministry, the repayment was financed through carefully planned government arrangements, ensuring that the transaction did not exert undue pressure on the country’s foreign exchange reserves.
Officials believe the latest payment will further reduce Ghana’s external debt burden while enhancing confidence among international investors in the government’s fiscal discipline and macroeconomic reform agenda.
The Ministry said settling the obligation ahead of schedule demonstrates government’s resolve to maintain responsible public debt management and preserve macroeconomic stability as it continues implementing its economic recovery programme.
The payment comes at a time when Ghana is working to rebuild credibility in international financial markets following the successful completion of its external debt restructuring and the continued implementation of reforms under the International Monetary Fund’s Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI).
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sound public financial management, stressing that government will continue to ensure the timely servicing of debt obligations while safeguarding long-term fiscal sustainability.
It also expressed appreciation to Ghanaians for their continued patience, support and confidence, noting that government remains focused on policies aimed at restoring economic stability, strengthening market confidence and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.
