Ghana has intensified its push for greater influence in global trade discussions after a high-level delegation met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during ongoing meetings in Geneva.
The engagement formed part of WTO deliberations held from April 27 to 30, 2026, where member countries reviewed key issues affecting the multilateral trading system.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by Mavis Afia-Adjei Naana and Musah Sibiri Hamidu.
Officials used the opportunity to reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to active participation in shaping a more balanced and inclusive global trading framework that supports developing economies.
They expressed appreciation for the engagement with WTO leadership and emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among member states to promote fair trade practices and sustainable economic growth.
The discussions also focused on improving cooperation between developing countries and international trade institutions to ensure equitable access to global markets.
The delegation included representatives from the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Ghana’s Mission in Geneva, the Ghana International Trade Commission, and the Ghana Free Zones Authority.
Officials say Ghana’s participation in the Geneva meetings reflects its broader strategy to strengthen its position in global trade negotiations and expand opportunities for national economic development.
