Ghana has taken a significant step forward in advancing women’s reproductive health by officially launching the #FP2030 initiative, a global partnership aimed at expanding access to family planning and contraception.
At the launch, Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to empowering women and girls to make informed choices about their reproductive lives—building on over six decades of commitment since the inception of the National Family Planning Programme in 1960.
The #FP2030 initiative emphasizes voluntary, rights-based, and person-centered approaches, focusing on inclusivity by engaging men, youth, and marginalized groups to ensure equitable access to reproductive health services.
Minister Akandoh stressed that the initiative aligns seamlessly with Ghana’s broader health and development agenda, reflecting a government pledge to protect and promote the reproductive rights and wellbeing of all citizens, especially women and girls.
