Ghanaians will be able to watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup live on local media platforms after government-backed fundraising efforts secured broadcast rights for the tournament, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has announced.
According to the Minister, the development forms part of broader efforts to make the global football event widely accessible while also supporting preparations of the national team, the Black Stars.
He made the disclosure at the presentation of a GH¢5 million donation from GCB Bank towards the Black Stars fundraising campaign, which is mobilising corporate support ahead of the tournament to be hosted in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
“Through the support of government and fundraising efforts, we have been able to secure broadcast rights to telecast the World Cup matches live on some of the media stations,” Kofi Adams said.
The Sports Ministry says the initiative ensures that fans across the country will not miss any action from the tournament, as preparations continue to rally financial and logistical support for the national team.
The GCB Bank donation is part of a wider corporate drive aimed at strengthening Ghana’s participation in the global showpiece, with government calling on additional stakeholders to contribute to the Black Stars’ campaign.
