Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has concluded what officials are describing as a landmark diplomatic visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), securing substantial investment commitments aimed at transforming key sectors of the Ghanaian economy.
The two-day visit, which included high-level meetings with Emirati government officials and business leaders, resulted in concrete pledges of investment in sectors such as renewable energy, artificial intelligence, healthcare, education, aviation, and defense.
In a statement following the visit, Ablakwa expressed optimism about the potential impact of the agreements, noting that the UAE’s support will play a crucial role in advancing Ghana’s national development agenda.
“This visit has been truly historic and overwhelmingly successful,” he said. “We have received firm commitments from UAE companies to invest in critical sectors that are essential to Ghana’s transformation, including renewable energy, AI, healthcare, education, aviation, and defense.”
One of the standout outcomes of the trip was a commitment from UAE partners to provide technical support for the establishment of a national airline — a long-anticipated move that is expected to significantly boost Ghana’s aviation industry and enhance its status as a regional air travel hub.
“We are particularly excited about the technical support secured for establishing a national airline, which will be a game-changer for our aviation sector,” Ablakwa noted.
The minister emphasized that the engagements reflect a deepening partnership between the two nations, characterized by mutual respect and a shared vision for economic growth.
“The UAE has proven to be a true strategic partner, and this visit has reinforced our shared commitment to driving sustainable development and creating opportunities for our people,” he added.
The UAE’s investment commitments are expected to not only bolster Ghana’s economic growth but also generate jobs, enhance infrastructure, and strengthen bilateral ties between the two nations.
Ghana’s diplomatic mission in the UAE has described the visit as a critical step toward realizing the country’s long-term economic ambitions, including diversifying its economy and becoming a regional hub for technology and innovation.
