Ghana and Türkiye are exploring fresh avenues to strengthen bilateral relations, with sports emerging as a new frontier for collaboration.
During a high-level meeting at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce headquarters, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr. Kofi Iddie Adams, met with Chamber President Mr. Şekib Avdagiç and board members to discuss joint opportunities in football, aviation, and agriculture.
The talks highlighted how sports diplomacy can complement trade and investment, reinforcing the historic Ghana–Türkiye partnership that dates back to 1958.
Mr. Adams urged Turkish football giants, including Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray, to consider formal partnerships with Ghanaian academies as a way to harness Ghana’s world-class football talent while fostering cultural and economic ties.
Beyond football, the Minister encouraged Turkish investors to support the modernization of Ghana’s stadiums, youth academy infrastructure, and sports facilities, positioning the sector as a gateway to deeper bilateral cooperation.
The discussions also touched on other critical areas such as aviation connectivity between Accra and Istanbul, and investments in agriculture and irrigation projects to boost food security and trade.
Mr. Adams, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, described Türkiye as a “strategic partner for Ghana,” stressing that closer collaboration in sports and business would bring long-term benefits to both nations.
The Istanbul Chamber of Commerce welcomed the proposals, reaffirming its commitment to expanding economic cooperation with Ghana, particularly in areas that promote youth development and shared prosperity.
