Ghana’s Export Growth Boosts Macroeconomic Stability, GEPA Chairman Highlights

Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, Board Chairman of the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), has revealed that Ghana’s export earnings for 2026 have risen by $8.5 million so far, signaling a positive trend in the country’s trade performance.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, February 16, the Wa East MP said the increase in export volumes, coupled with the strategic use of surplus production, is contributing to macroeconomic stability.

Dr. Jasaw made the remarks in response to claims from the Minority caucus that macroeconomic stability is primarily driven by dollar injections from the Bank of Ghana. He stressed that productive capacity and rising exports play a critical role.

“There are exports relative to imports. Exports have been increasing, and I chair the GEPA board and I can tell you for a fact that our export quantum has been increasing — about $8.5 million already by mid-year,” he said.

He added, “It is not about over-injection of dollars. If the productive capacity of the country is being utilised effectively and exports are rising, clearly you will have stability in the macroeconomy.”

The chairman’s comments highlight the importance of export-led growth in sustaining Ghana’s economic health, emphasizing that robust trade performance can complement monetary interventions in supporting financial stability.
