Ghana’s footprint in international sports administration has received another boost with the re-election of Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, as Vice President and Executive Board Member of the World Armwrestling Federation (WAF).
The elections, held on Friday in Albena, Bulgaria, cement Osei Asibey’s place among the global decision-makers of the sport, positioning Ghana and Africa at the heart of armwrestling’s growth worldwide.
Widely credited with transforming armwrestling into one of Ghana’s fastest-growing sports, Osei Asibey described his re-election as an opportunity to further project African talent and influence on the global stage.
“I remain committed to the development and promotion of sports. I am grateful to the Almighty, my family, friends, Africa, and the world for the encouragement,” he said.
Sports analysts say his presence at the world body is likely to attract greater investment, technical support, and international exposure for Ghanaian and African athletes, ensuring the continent plays a more prominent role in shaping the future of the sport.
