The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) has received a major boost in its efforts to attract foreign and local investment, as its Western, Central, and Western North regional office took delivery of a Mitsubishi pick-up truck under the World Bank-funded Ghana Economic Transformation Project.
The logistics support is expected to significantly enhance the Centre’s regional operations and drive Ghana closer to its ambitious $200 million investment target—of which GIPC has already secured 50 percent.
Speaking during the handover, GIPC CEO Mr. Simon Madjie emphasized the strategic importance of the Western Region in Ghana’s economic transformation agenda. He highlighted the area’s wealth of natural resources, extensive agricultural land, and 17 agriculturally active districts as ripe for investment in agro-processing and manufacturing.
“We’ve already secured over $100 million in the oil sector,” Mr. Madjie revealed, “but we are now actively pivoting toward the non-oil sector to expand job opportunities and diversify the region’s economic base.”
Mr. Madjie also stressed the need for improved workplace attitudes among public servants to better position Ghana as an attractive investment destination. He underscored plans to collaborate closely with regional ministers and key government agencies in crafting compelling investment pitches to attract both domestic and international capital.
He added that the recent appreciation of the cedi presents an additional incentive for investors and the business community at large.
The operational upgrade is expected to strengthen outreach and project implementation across the Western corridor, enhancing GIPC’s ability to promote Ghana as a globally competitive investment hub.
