The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has postponed its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM) following the declaration of March 31 and April 1 as public holidays in Ghana.
In a statement signed by General Secretary Kofi Yeboah, the GJA announced that the AGM, initially set for March 31, will now be held on April 2, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra.
The rescheduling comes in response to an Executive Instrument (EI) issued by the President of Ghana, designating March 31 and April 1 as public holidays to mark Eid ul-Fitr. The Islamic festival, which signifies the end of Ramadan, is observed as a national holiday in Ghana to allow Muslims and the general public to participate in religious and social activities.
The AGM serves as the highest decision-making body of the GJA, convened under Articles 34(f) and 34(a)(ii) of the Association’s 2004 Constitution. It will feature key discussions, including the General Secretary’s Annual Report, audited financial statements presented by the National Treasurer, and regional reports. Members will also deliberate on other pressing matters affecting the association and the media landscape in Ghana.
The GJA emphasized that all members in good standing as of December 31, 2024, are eligible to attend. While full members will have voting rights, honorary and student members may participate but will not be entitled to vote.
Founded in 1949, the GJA remains a key institution championing press freedom, ethical journalism, and the protection of media practitioners in Ghana. The association continues to advocate for democratic governance, media development, and professional training for journalists. Through collaborations with local and international stakeholders, the GJA seeks to uphold responsible journalism while strengthening the role of the media in national development.
