The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has rejected reports alleging that a licensed gold trading company, Dominic Bonsu Ventures, disappeared with GH¢200 million belonging to the institution, describing the claims as part of a misinformation campaign aimed at damaging its reputation.
In a statement issued on Monday, August 3, GoldBod said a social media publication making the allegation was false and contained misleading claims about the company’s relationship with the board and its Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
The board clarified that Dominic Bonsu, proprietor of Dominic Bonsu Ventures, was never employed as a bodyguard or personal security officer to the GoldBod CEO, contrary to claims contained in the circulating publication.
GoldBod further denied ever advancing GH¢200 million or any funds to Dominic Bonsu Ventures, insisting that no such financial loss had occurred.
According to the board, Dominic Bonsu Ventures had its licence suspended following suspected breaches of licensing conditions and trading regulations under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
It explained that enforcement action against the company was based on regulatory concerns and not allegations that the firm had taken funds belonging to GoldBod.
GoldBod said investigations into the matter resulted in the arrest of Dominic Bonsu, who was subsequently remanded by the High Court in Accra, with legal proceedings currently ongoing.
The institution accused some individuals of attempting to distort the facts surrounding the case in order to undermine public confidence in its regulatory mandate.
“GoldBod remains committed to enforcing Ghana’s gold trading laws fairly, professionally and without fear or favour,” the statement said.
The board urged the public to disregard unverified information circulating online and rely on official communications for updates on regulatory matters.
It also appealed to media organisations, bloggers and social media users to exercise caution by verifying claims before publishing them, stressing the need for responsible reporting, especially on issues involving ongoing investigations.
