Family members of veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei have announced Saturday, November 14, 2026, as the date for her burial, bringing preparations underway to honour the life and legacy of one of the country’s celebrated gospel music voices.
The funeral activities will be held at the Legon Interdenominational Church (LIC) in Legon, Accra, where family, friends, fellow musicians and admirers are expected to gather to pay their last respects.
Offei died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 63, leaving behind a musical legacy built around gospel songs that resonated with audiences across Ghana.
Her death followed a period of health challenges, with her former manager, Kwasi Ernest, disclosing that she had lived with dementia for about five years.
According to Mr Ernest, the condition affected her memory and ability to carry out everyday activities. He explained that she had left home on September 1 and struggled to find her way back, prompting a search by her family. She was later found safe and taken to hospital for medical attention, but her condition subsequently deteriorated.
Beyond her music career, Offei also distinguished herself in the banking sector, rising to become Head of the Card Centre at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana.
She earned widespread recognition in Ghana’s gospel music industry through songs including Life Is Short and Hold On, which helped establish her reputation as a respected voice in Christian music.
Her contribution to the industry received further recognition at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards, where she won Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year.
Her burial on November 14 will provide an opportunity for loved ones and members of the music fraternity to celebrate her life, reflect on her achievements and remember the influence of her music on Ghana’s gospel scene.
