The Ghanaian government is exploring options for sending Sandra Baafi Boateng, a victim of the tragic stampede during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise at Baba Yara Sports Stadium, abroad for specialized medical treatment, as announced by Health Minister, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, in Parliament on Monday, March 9, 2026.
Akandoh provided an update on Ms. Baafi Boateng’s ongoing recovery, reassuring Parliament that the Ministry of Health is fully engaged in ensuring she receives the best possible care. He highlighted that the government continues to work closely with medical professionals at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and 37 Military Hospital to provide her with comprehensive care.
“Should the need arise, we are prepared to send Ms. Baafi Boateng abroad for further specialized treatment, based on medical recommendations,” the Health Minister affirmed.
The incident, which occurred during the November 12, 2025 recruitment exercise, left Ms. Baafi Boateng with severe injuries. She has since been under intensive care, with the government covering all medical expenses to ease her financial burden. After initially receiving care at Komfo Anokye, Ms. Baafi Boateng was transferred to the 37 Military Hospital in late February 2026 for further treatment, including rehabilitation.
The government remains committed to exploring both local and international healthcare options to ensure her recovery is as swift and effective as possible.
