The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has terminated the contracts of all Regional and Zonal Coordinators under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), effective immediately.
In an official statement issued on March 4, 2025, Minister Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey announced the mass termination, expressing gratitude to the affected staff for their service to the nation.
“Please be informed that the contracts of all Regional and Zonal Coordinators of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) are hereby terminated with immediate effect,” the statement read.
The dismissed coordinators have been instructed to visit the GSFP Secretariat to collect their official termination letters and complete their handover processes.
While the statement was copied to key officials, including the Chief Director, the National Coordinator of GSFP, and the Controller and Accountant General, it did not provide specific reasons for the sudden dismissals.
The GSFP, a major government initiative designed to provide free meals to schoolchildren to boost enrollment, attendance, and nutrition, has faced persistent challenges in recent years. Issues such as funding delays, allegations of corruption, and unpaid arrears to caterers have often disrupted the programme’s effectiveness.
The widespread termination of coordinators suggests a possible restructuring or overhaul of the programme’s management. However, the Ministry has yet to provide clarity on whether new appointments will be made or if the dismissal is linked to ongoing operational challenges.
As stakeholders await further explanations, the move has sparked discussions on the future of the Ghana School Feeding Programme and how the government plans to address its long-standing issues.
