The Kadjebi Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has announced plans to partner with the Ghana Police Service in a coordinated operation to curb traffic violations and improve road safety in the Kadjebi area of the Oti Region.
Branch Secretary **Gabriel Kudzawu** disclosed the initiative during an Inter-Service and Sectoral Collaboration Meeting held in Kadjebi, highlighting concerns over rising incidents of over-speeding, wrongful overtaking, and failure to obey traffic signs, which have contributed to avoidable accidents and loss of lives.
Mr. Kudzawu stressed that the joint exercise aims to enforce strict compliance with road traffic laws, promote professionalism among commercial drivers, and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users.
The Union also plans to work closely with the **Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority** to verify that all commercial drivers have valid licences. Assistance will be provided to drivers who have yet to regularise their documents to strengthen accountability and service quality in the transport sector.
Addressing concerns about fare adjustments following fuel price reductions, Mr. Kudzawu clarified that the Kadjebi branch does not have the authority to independently set fares. Such decisions are determined by the National Executive of the GPRTU.
He appealed to drivers to cooperate fully with the planned enforcement exercise, comply with traffic regulations, and contribute to safer roads in the Kadjebi enclave and surrounding communities.
