Ghanaian songstress Gyakie is set to make history this July as she takes her distinctive Afrobeats sound to Japan, headlining multiple shows at the first-ever Afro Jam Festival — a groundbreaking event designed to introduce and celebrate Afrobeats culture in Asia.
The festival, which runs from July 18 to 27, 2025, will see Gyakie perform in three major Japanese cities: Okinawa on July 18, Osaka on July 24, and Tokyo on July 27. Sharing the stage with international acts like Jason Derulo, Rema, Ruger, and Shenseea, Gyakie will represent Ghana on one of the most diverse Afrobeats platforms yet staged in Asia.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Gyakie expressed excitement about the growing anticipation among her Japanese fanbase.
“I’ve been getting a lot of DMs from people in Japan. They can’t wait to see me. It still feels surreal that I’m actually going to Asia to perform,” she said.
Gyakie’s inclusion in the Afro Jam lineup signals her steady rise on the global music scene, and highlights a broader trend of Ghanaian artists gaining traction in Asian markets. She now joins the ranks of fellow Ghanaian acts like King Promise, KiDi, and the Santrofi band who have recently extended their musical influence to the Far East.
The performance series also comes on the heels of her latest release, Sankofa, the lead single from her forthcoming album After Midnight, a project that is expected to further cement her status as a pan-African musical force with international reach.
Afro Jam Fest is poised to be a milestone event, spotlighting the global appeal of Afrobeats and offering Ghanaian talent a bold new stage in the heart of Asia.
