Hajia Fati Forgor has officially taken office as the new National Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP), promising to build on the progress made by her predecessor, Hajia Safia Mohammed.
At a brief but symbolic handing-over ceremony on Monday, March 10, 2025, Hajia Safia Mohammed formally transferred control of the national secretariat, handing over official keys, vehicles, documents, and other working tools to the newly appointed leadership.
The event, held at the GSFP National Secretariat, was attended by management and staff, as well as Hajia Fati Forgor’s two deputy national coordinators—Madam Felicia Mekpoi Bortey and Madam Faustina Lamptey, both of whom serve as Regional Women Organisers for Greater Accra and Central Regions, respectively.
In her farewell remarks, Hajia Safia Mohammed congratulated the incoming leadership and assured them of her willingness to provide guidance whenever needed. She also called on GSFP staff to rally behind the new leadership, stressing that cooperation and teamwork are essential to the success of the school feeding programme.
Taking the reins as the new National Coordinator, Hajia Fati Forgor expressed gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized the need for teamwork and collaboration. She urged staff to avoid office politics and backbiting, assuring them of a fair leadership approach based on personal interactions rather than hearsay.
“I am here to work with everyone as a team. I will not judge anyone based on what I hear but rather through personal interactions. Let’s put aside divisions and work together for the benefit of the programme and the children who depend on it,” she stated.
As part of efforts to strengthen the GSFP, the government has announced an increase in the feeding grant per child per meal, raising it from GHC 1.50 to GHC 2.00. This was revealed by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson during the 2025 budget statement in Parliament.
The increment is expected to improve meal quality for school children under the programme and ensure better implementation of the social intervention initiative.
With the new leadership in place and increased government investment, stakeholders remain optimistic that the GSFP will continue to evolve and positively impact schoolchildren across Ghana.
