The Asogli State Council has assured the public that there will be no restriction on movement into or out of Ho when traditional cleansing and purification rites are performed in the township on Friday, September 11, 2026.
The clarification follows reports circulating on social media suggesting that movement in and out of Ho would be restricted during the overnight rituals.
The Council, acting under the authority of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, said such reports were false and urged the public to disregard them.
In a statement signed by its Secretary, Mr Stephen Tetteh, the Council said the rites would begin at 2200 hours on Friday and continue until dawn on Saturday, September 12.
The traditional ceremony is being organised by the chiefs and elders of Ho in response to the recent spate of road accidents in the township, which has resulted in the loss of lives and property.
The Council said the cleansing and purification rites were intended to spiritually cleanse the town and seek protection, peace and continued wellbeing for residents.
It, however, appealed to residents, visitors and organisers of activities within Ho to respect the solemn nature of the ceremony.
Churches and organisers of other programmes have therefore been encouraged to conclude their activities, as far as practicable, by 2130 hours on Friday.
Similarly, pubs, drinking spots, recreational centres and other establishments have been asked to end their activities by the same time and avoid conduct that could disrupt the performance of the rites.
The Council stressed that the traditional ceremony was separate from the ongoing annual Asogli Te Za celebrations and would not affect the 2026 Te Za programme.
“All scheduled activities of the 2026 Asogli Te Za will proceed as advertised,” the statement said.
The Council also said the route for the traditional procession had been made available for public guidance and urged the public to rely on official communications from the Asogli Traditional Council rather than unverified information circulating on social media.
