The Ho Sports Stadium is set to come alive on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as top hockey clubs converge for the third edition of the Johnson Ofori Memorial Hockey Tournament, an event that is steadily establishing itself as a key fixture on the regional sports calendar.
Organised by the Volta Regional Hockey Association in partnership with the National Sports Authority (Volta Regional Secretariat), the tournament is expected to showcase high-level competition and growing interest in hockey across the region.
Five clubs—Ho Hockey Club, Koforidua Hockey Club, Citizens International Hockey Club, Multistix Hockey Club, and Financiers Hockey Club—will battle for honours in what promises to be an exciting day of action starting at 9:00 a.m.
Beyond the competition, the tournament continues to play a crucial role in developing the sport locally, providing a platform for clubs to test their strength while nurturing emerging talent.
The event is also held in memory of the late Johnson Ofori, a former Chairman and Patron of the Volta Hockey Association and Ho Hockey Club, whose contributions were instrumental in shaping hockey in the region. His legacy remains a driving force behind the tournament’s growing significance.
The Volta Regional Sports Director is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour, underscoring the importance of the initiative in promoting grassroots sports development.
Since its introduction, the competition has seen different champions emerge, reflecting its competitive nature. Citizens International Hockey Club won the maiden edition in 2022, while Koforidua Hockey Club claimed the title in 2024.
As anticipation builds, organisers are confident that this year’s edition will not only deliver thrilling matches but also deepen interest in hockey among young athletes and strengthen the sport’s footprint in the Volta Region.
