A hunter accused of causing the death of a 35-year-old charcoal producer during a forest expedition has been remanded into police custody by the Enchi District Magistrate Court as investigations into a suspected murder case continue.
Robert Amoah has been charged with murder, although the court did not take his plea when he appeared before His Worship Lawrance Buanor-Bue. He is expected to reappear on Thursday, May 21, 2026, pending further directives from the Attorney General’s office.
Police Inspector Stephen Offei Asante, who is leading the prosecution, told the court that the deceased, a resident of Gyamasi, and the accused, who lives in Owusu Dapaa, were both in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality at the time of the incident.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 31, 2026, when Amoah and four others went on a hunting expedition in the Gyamasi Forest at about 2:00 p.m.
During the expedition, the suspect allegedly spotted an African civet and fired his weapon. However, pellets from the gun reportedly struck the victim, who was working nearby producing charcoal on a cocoa farm.
The prosecution said the injured man, who suffered a head wound, was rushed by Amoah and his colleagues to the Agona Amenfi CHPS compound for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the incident, Amoah reportedly reported himself to the Agona Amenfi Police, where he was arrested to assist with investigations.
A postmortem examination was later conducted by Dr. Addea of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, after which the body was released to the family for burial.
The court has since remanded the accused person as police continue their investigations into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
