Ghanaian singer Enam has opened up about the deeply personal and emotional experience that inspired one of her songs, saying it came during a reflective night at home as she questioned her musical path and creative direction.
The award-winning artiste explained that she had been going through a period of uncertainty about her sound when a conversation with a colleague prompted her to think deeply about her childhood and her late great-grandmothers.
That reflection, she said, stayed with her into the night as she sat alone in her room.
In that moment, Enam said she spoke out aloud, asking for guidance or inspiration.
“I call upon you this night, if there is any message for me, come and give me the message,” she recalled.
Shortly after, she claims she experienced a sudden wave of inspiration that felt unusual and intense.
She said she began to hear sounds in her ears, followed by what she described as a voice and the immediate arrival of a song in her mind.
“And then I heard her voice,” she said. “I was like, ‘What? Am I going mad?’”
Enam was quick to clarify that the experience occurred while she was fully sober.
“I was not drunk. I was not high. I was nothing,” she stressed.
According to her, the lyrics of the song kept repeating in her mind, prompting her to quickly record them on her phone before they faded.
She described the moment as one of the most unexpected but meaningful creative breakthroughs in her musical journey.
