An Immigration Service officer has died following a motorbike accident at Assin Fosu in the Central Region, while a police officer who was riding the motorcycle remains hospitalised with serious injuries.
The deceased, identified as Amoakoh and popularly known as Ahuoden, was reportedly travelling as a pillion passenger on the motorbike being ridden by the police officer attached to the Central North Regional Police Command.
The two were said to be travelling from Finest Pup towards the Assin Fosu Main Lorry Station when the motorcycle reportedly veered off the road and crashed.
The impact left both riders injured, prompting passersby to rush to the scene and transport them to a health facility for emergency treatment.
Medical officers, however, pronounced Amoakoh dead on arrival.
The police officer reportedly sustained fractures to his left arm and left leg and remains on admission, where he is receiving medical attention.
Following the incident, personnel from the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) visited the crash scene to begin investigations.
The damaged motorcycle was also taken away for further examination as investigators work to establish what caused the crash.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at a morgue pending further procedures.
The incident has renewed concerns over road safety and the need for caution among motorcyclists, particularly on busy routes where unexpected loss of control can result in fatal consequences.
