The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has praised security agencies stationed at the Aflao Border for what he described as strong inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding Ghana’s territorial integrity.
During a working visit to the border post in the Ketu South Municipality on Tuesday, the Minister engaged officers of the Ghana Immigration Service and other security institutions as part of his two-day tour of the Volta Region.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of coordination among agencies including Customs, National Security, the Signal Bureau and other partners, stressing that effective border management depends on teamwork rather than isolated efforts.
According to him, the collaboration among the various services demonstrated a shared commitment to securing the country’s eastern frontier and ensuring the smooth movement of people and goods across the border.
Mr. Muntaka noted that Aflao, as one of the busiest land borders in West Africa, requires sustained vigilance and cooperation to address challenges such as transnational crime, human trafficking, smuggling, irregular migration and drug-related offences.
He urged officers to maintain professionalism and strengthen information-sharing mechanisms to enhance operational efficiency and border security.
Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Mark Asamoah-Boakye, who is the Aflao Sector Commander, thanked the Minister for the visit, saying it had boosted morale among personnel and reaffirmed government support for frontline officers.
He assured that the Immigration Service and partner agencies would continue to deepen collaboration to improve border surveillance and protect national security.
