The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the operating licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited with immediate effect following the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The action comes as authorities intensify scrutiny of private security operations in the wake of the June 21 incident at Kwabenya, which left the former lawmaker with a gunshot injury to her left ear.
In a statement issued by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Ministry said preliminary investigations pointed to possible breaches of the Private Security Organisations (PSO) Regulations, 1992 (LI 1571), raising serious concerns about compliance within the private security sector.
According to the Ministry, reports suggest personnel of Kantanka Security Services Limited may have used unapproved uniforms and possessed firearms, ammunition and security equipment without the required authorization while providing security services at the scene.
The Ministry described the alleged actions as a serious violation of regulations with potential implications for public safety and national security.
As a result, the company has been directed to halt all operations pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
The Ministry further advised public institutions, businesses and individuals to suspend all engagements with the security company until further notice.
Authorities have also instructed Kantanka Security Services Limited to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all information necessary to support investigations into the incident.
The suspension, the Ministry explained, is an administrative measure aimed at protecting public safety while law enforcement agencies determine the full circumstances surrounding the matter.
The latest development comes as police continue investigations into the shooting, which is believed to be linked to events at the residence of the late Apostle Professor Kwadwo Safo in Kwabenya.
Six persons have so far been arrested in connection with the incident as investigators work to establish the roles played by individuals present at the scene.
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict compliance with regulations governing private security organisations and warned that sanctions would be imposed on any company found to have violated the law.
It also urged members of the public to report any suspected unlawful activities involving private security personnel to the nearest police station.
Officials say further action will be taken upon completion of investigations and in accordance with Ghana’s security laws and regulatory framework.
