Jenny Shin has claimed her first LPGA Tour title in more than a decade after holding her nerve through a difficult final round to win the Women’s Scottish Open at Dundonald.
The South Korean began the final round in a strong position but struggled on the front nine, carding three bogeys in a three-over-par 75.
Despite the difficult finish, Shin ended the tournament on nine under par to secure a two-shot victory over compatriot A-Lim Kim.
Kim produced one of the best rounds of the day with a 68 to finish second, while Thailand’s Pajaree Anannarukarn placed third, a further two shots behind.
The victory marked only the second LPGA Tour title of Shin’s career and came after 368 attempts since her first success in 2016.
Shin’s breakthrough victory came at the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout, but she admitted that her latest triumph carried far greater personal significance.
She said she had not felt she truly deserved her first title, describing it as almost accidental, but believed the Scottish Open victory reflected years of hard work.
Shin was visibly emotional after sinking her final putt on the 18th hole before being drenched with water and champagne by friends celebrating her long-awaited success.
The challenging conditions at Dundonald made the tournament particularly demanding, with only 10 players finishing under par after four rounds.
England’s Charley Hull ended on 10 over par after a final-round 74, while American world number one Nelly Korda carded a 69 to finish tied for 16th on two over.
Attention now turns to the final major of the season, the Women’s Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes in Lancashire, which begins on Thursday.
Korda said the Scottish conditions, which included rain and strong winds, had provided valuable preparation for the major championship.
