Tertiary students under the Joseph and Elizabeth Quansah (JEQ) Foundation scholarship scheme have received laptops in Accra as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning and improve academic performance among beneficiaries.
The presentation took place at the University of Ghana SRC Union Building and forms part of the Foundation’s broader support package, which includes tuition, accommodation, mentorship, internships and skills development for financially disadvantaged but high-achieving students.
Co-Founder and Co-President of the JEQ Foundation, Dr Elizabeth I. Quansah, said the introduction of laptops was intended to bridge the technology gap faced by some beneficiaries and enhance their academic work.
She explained that the devices were awarded to active scholarship recipients based on academic performance and participation in community service activities.
Dr Quansah disclosed that over 300 students have benefited from the scholarship programme since its inception in 2019, with an additional 30 scholarships expected to be awarded in the current cycle.
She added that beneficiaries are required to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 to remain on the scheme and encouraged interested applicants to prepare for the next application window, which opens on June 11, 2026.
Beyond financial assistance, she noted that the Foundation also provides mentorship, internship placements and digital skills training to prepare students for future employment.
The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, Professor Rosina Kyerematen, praised the initiative, describing it as timely support for students who face financial constraints despite gaining access to tertiary education.
She encouraged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity and urged other organisations and philanthropists to invest in education to help expand access to learning support.
President of the JEQ Foundation Alumni Group, Abdul Rahman Lansah, shared his personal experience, noting that the scholarship played a key role in sustaining him through university and guiding his transition into the job market.
He encouraged current beneficiaries to remain committed to their studies and, in the future, support other students in need.
The event also featured a citation presented by beneficiaries to the Foundation’s leadership in appreciation of their continued investment in education and youth development.
