Ghana captain Jordan Ayew made his second appearance for Sheffield United on Wednesday but could not prevent the Blades from suffering a 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood Town in the EFL Cup.
The 35-year-old forward was introduced in the second half and spent 32 minutes on the pitch as Sheffield United chased an equaliser after falling behind.
Ayew provided an attacking spark after his introduction, registering one key pass and creating a clear scoring opportunity for his teammates.
However, the Ghanaian was unable to inspire a comeback as Fleetwood held on to advance at Sheffield United’s expense.
The appearance followed Ayew’s Sheffield United debut against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship just days earlier.
Having completed his move to Bramall Lane late, Ayew is still adjusting to his new club and has so far featured only as a substitute in his two appearances.
He has accumulated 58 minutes of playing time since joining the Blades.
Black Stars call-up awaits
Ayew is expected to turn his attention to international duty, with the Black Stars preparing for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
Ghana are scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24 before hosting The Gambia later in the international window.
The veteran forward will be hoping for increased playing time at Sheffield United ahead of his expected return to the Black Stars, as Ghana begin their quest for a place at the 2027 continental tournament.
