Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie has placed innovation at the forefront of Ghana’s justice delivery system with the declaration of November 24–28, 2025, as Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Week. The initiative is geared towards advancing the use of technology to make justice more accessible, efficient, and affordable for the public.
This year’s celebration, themed “Adoption of Innovation and Technology to Enhance Access to Justice Delivery through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR),” highlights the Judiciary’s commitment to integrating modern tools into mediation and conflict resolution processes.
According to a statement issued by Ms. Christiana Puorideme, Acting Deputy Director of ADR, a total of 138 courts—comprising 35 Circuit Courts and 103 District Courts—will channel the entire week toward resolving cases through ADR mechanisms nationwide. The approach is expected to ease pressure on the traditional court system while speeding up case resolution.
The week will open with a press briefing at the Ho High Court on Monday at 9:00 a.m., where the Chief Justice will address the media and outline the Judiciary’s vision for innovation-led dispute resolution.
The statement encouraged the Bar, disputants, media, and the general public to actively participate, stressing that ADR Week remains a major strategy for promoting mediation as a practical, less adversarial complement to litigation—especially beneficial for vulnerable groups.
ADR forms a critical component of the Judicial Service’s “Court-Connected ADR” programme, designed to provide quicker, cost-effective, and more flexible avenues for justice delivery. The institutionalisation of ADR Week in every Legal Year Term reflects the Judiciary’s resolve to entrench mediation as a mainstream tool for decongesting courts and broadening access to justice.
