Investigative journalism firm Tiger Eye PI has responded to the recent U.S. court decision to reduce an $18 million defamation award against Ghanaian politician Kennedy Agyapong, emphasizing that its victory lies in the court’s judgment, not the financial compensation.
In a press release dated May 11, 2025, the firm recalled that an American jury recently found Agyapong guilty of maliciously defaming its founder, Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The original $18 million award was significantly reduced to $500 after Agyapong successfully filed a motion for remittitur, which argued that the jury’s compensation was excessive.
The ruling effectively upheld the core defamation finding, confirming that Agyapong’s statements were maliciously damaging to Anas’ reputation. Tiger Eye PI noted that by seeking this reduction, Agyapong implicitly admitted to the defamation.
“Many avenues of redemption accrue to me,” the statement reads, stressing that the case was never about the monetary award but rather about defending the truth and pursuing justice.
The firm also highlighted that despite Agyapong’s efforts, no allegations against Anas were proven in court, reflecting what it views as a comprehensive vindication of its founder’s integrity.
“I will continue in my relentless fight against corruption – and in doing that, continue to name, shame, and jail,” the statement concluded, reaffirming Tiger Eye PI’s commitment to investigative journalism.
