In response to the shocking murder of a retired seafarer and cattle farmer in Tadzewu, Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr. Eric Edem Agbana, has called for urgent action to regulate the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the municipality.
The tragedy, which police suspect was perpetrated by a Fulani herdsman employed by the victim, Carson Fogah Ladzekpo, has sent ripples of fear and anger throughout the Ketu North Constituency. The suspect has since been arrested and is cooperating with police investigations.
Reacting to the incident, Mr. Agbana announced that an emergency meeting of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) will be held on Monday to develop a structured and sustainable mechanism for managing herder-resident relations in the area.
“This horrific incident has deeply shaken our community. I have spoken to the police and other security agencies to ensure that justice is served swiftly and thoroughly,” the MP said in a statement.
While offering his condolences to the bereaved family and the entire community, Mr. Agbana urged residents to remain calm and allow law enforcement to handle the matter. He called on traditional authorities, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders to play a role in maintaining peace.
“We must not allow this tragedy to tear our community apart or compromise our security. The law must take its course without interference or retaliatory actions,” he cautioned.
The upcoming MUSEC meeting, to be led by the Municipal Chief Executive, is expected to explore long-term strategies for ensuring peaceful coexistence between Fulani herdsmen and local residents — a recurring flashpoint in many rural Ghanaian communities.
Mr. Agbana underscored the importance of finding a balance between protecting livelihoods and preserving communal harmony. “This is not just about law enforcement; it’s about building systems that foster mutual respect, safety, and accountability,” he noted.
The case has reignited broader discussions about nomadic herding, land use conflicts, and local security in Ghana’s rural municipalities.
