Member of Parliament for Ketu North, Mr. Edem Eric Agbana, has called on traditional leaders within the municipality to resolve ongoing chieftaincy disputes that continue to hamper development efforts in the area.
Speaking during the confirmation ceremony of Rev. Martin Prince Amenaki as the new Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Agbana expressed deep concern over how unresolved traditional leadership disagreements are undermining progress and discouraging investment in affected communities.
“We often want to pursue development, initiate projects, or invite investors—but the environment becomes too politically sensitive because of unresolved chieftaincy issues. It creates fear of appearing partisan,” the MP noted.
While acknowledging the importance of traditional leadership in community development, Mr. Agbana emphasized that political leaders do not have the mandate to determine or endorse traditional rulers. However, he said these disputes inevitably spill over into political spaces, stalling projects and dividing communities.
The MP made a heartfelt appeal to the traditional authorities in Ketu North to set aside personal differences and unite around a common goal of improving lives in the municipality.
“Our people are hungry for progress—better roads, clean water, jobs, and education. Unity among our chiefs is essential if we are to bring these to them. Let’s put Ketu North first,” he urged.
He pledged his full support to the new MCE and promised to work closely with him to ensure all-inclusive and accelerated development.
Rev. Martin Prince Amenaki, in his acceptance speech, echoed the MP’s call, committing to engage every traditional leader, regardless of faction, to drive holistic and inclusive development.
“Development cannot happen in disunity. My administration will be open and collaborative, and I will make sure no community is left behind,” Rev. Amenaki said.
His confirmation saw unanimous approval from all 55 Assembly Members, signaling strong political and community backing.
As Ketu North prepares to roll out new initiatives, both Mr. Agbana and Rev. Amenaki have underlined the need for traditional unity as a foundation for sustainable growth. The confirmation ceremony, held in Dzodze, brought together community leaders, Assembly Members, clergy, and residents, all hopeful for a new chapter of peace and progress.
