Ghanaian singer-songwriter Kofi Kinaata has shed light on why collaborations on his own tracks are rare, highlighting his deeply personal and autonomous creative process.
In a candid interview with Feeling Daddy on Starr Showbiz (Starr FM), Kinaata explained that while he frequently features on songs by other artists, he rarely includes others on his own records. To date, only two artistes—Shatta Wale and Samini—have appeared as featured guests on his tracks.
“Even though I’ve been featured on many songs, people featuring on my songs are very limited,” Kinaata said. “That’s because the way I create music often leaves no room for others to add meaningfully.”
The acclaimed “Things Fall Apart” hitmaker described his songwriting approach as fluid and instinctive, where ideas and lyrics come together quickly and cohesively, leaving little space for collaboration.
“Sometimes, I just start miming, and before you know it, the song is complete,” he shared. “By the time I finish, the story is fully told, and there isn’t really space for someone else to contribute. I hope no one feels limited by this—it’s just how my creative process works.”
Despite this, Kinaata teased fans with the possibility of a future collaboration with renowned rapper Sarkodie, sparking excitement in the Ghanaian music scene.
Kinaata’s explanation offers insight into the balance artists navigate between personal expression and collaboration, underscoring the unique artistry that has won him widespread acclaim.
