Former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has come to the defense of Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, the current Minister for Government Communications, amid the ongoing controversy surrounding allegations of drug trafficking and money laundering linked to suspicious flights at Kotoka International Airport.
Oppong Nkrumah, in a display of support, emphasized that Kwakye-Ofosu did not fabricate the allegations but was merely relaying information from an official briefing, which later turned out to be inaccurate. He stated, “Look at this Air Med matter… I don’t think he cooked up that story. I believe it was a brief he was given. I will defend my brother Felix any day that he is not a liar.”
The remarks come in the wake of Assin South MP Rev. John Ntim Fordjour’s explosive claims, which have caused significant political uproar. While some government officials have denied any wrongdoing, critics continue to question the handling of the situation, raising concerns of a potential cover-up.
Acknowledging the challenging position Kwakye-Ofosu holds as a government spokesperson, Oppong Nkrumah highlighted the difficulties of interpreting sensitive information for the public. “How would he know? You are only a government spokesperson, so you will mouth these words and then people will say this guy is a liar,” he added.
While the controversy remains unresolved, Oppong Nkrumah’s defense underscores the complexities of communication within the government and the impact of misinformation.
