Doctors at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have called off their strike action after reaching an agreement with hospital management over tensions at the facility’s Central Laboratory.
The decision, announced by the Korle Bu Doctors Association (KODA) in a notice dated Monday, May 4, 2026, comes just hours after doctors suspended all Out-Patient Department (OPD) services, raising concerns among patients seeking medical care.
According to KODA, the strike was suspended following emergency discussions with hospital management, which provided assurances aimed at resolving the long-standing dispute between Laboratory Physicians and Medical Laboratory Scientists.
The Association said the intervention was critical to ensuring that laboratory physicians could return to work and that normal collaboration within the Central Laboratory could be restored.
It stressed that effective cooperation between the two professional groups remained vital to maintaining quality healthcare delivery at Ghana’s premier referral hospital.
With the temporary resolution in place, KODA has directed its members to resume OPD services from Tuesday, May 5, 2026, bringing relief to patients affected by the disruption.
The Association reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety and professional standards, while expressing hope that management would ensure a lasting solution to the issues at the laboratory.
