Authorities in Krachi West are positioning skills development as a key solution to youth unemployment, as the Municipal Chief Executive, Prosper Addo, commits to closely monitoring the implementation of the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP).
The initiative, which has already enrolled its first batch of trainees, is expected to equip young people with practical, employable skills while supporting local economic growth. Beneficiaries are being trained in trades such as tailoring, hairdressing, carpentry, and ICT, under the guidance of experienced master craft trainers.
Mr. Addo emphasized that beyond training, the programme is designed to create pathways to self-employment and reduce dependency, particularly among young people facing limited job opportunities.
Officials say the programme aligns with broader national efforts to address unemployment among Ghana’s youth population, a challenge affecting over a million people.
Regional coordinator Michael Mampah encouraged participants to take the opportunity seriously, noting that the skills acquired could significantly improve their long-term career prospects.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Krachi West, Helen Adwoa Ntoso, reaffirmed government’s commitment to expanding such initiatives, stressing that targeted skills programmes remain critical to improving livelihoods and driving sustainable development.
