Zug-ran of Kusaug, Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, has successfully brokered peace between the Kusasi youth and the Ghana Police Service, following recent tensions in the conflict-prone Kusaug Traditional Area.
Responding swiftly to mounting unease after clashes between local youth and security personnel, the Zug-ran intervened directly, calling for dialogue, restraint, and reconciliation. His guidance led to a structured peace process, facilitated by the Kusaug Advisory Council, that culminated in a formal understanding between the parties.
In a statement released by the Zug-ran Palace on April 19, the revered traditional ruler applauded both sides for their maturity and commitment to unity.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the youth for their understanding and their willingness to embrace peace,” the Zug-ran stated, also commending the professionalism shown by the police.
As part of the agreement, Kusasi youth leaders have launched a peace sensitisation campaign across the six districts and the municipality within the Kusaug area. The initiative is aimed at fostering cooperation between the community and law enforcement, restoring trust, and preventing further escalation.
Observers say the Zug-ran’s leadership has once again proven pivotal in holding the social fabric of Kusaug together, as his impartial and respected voice helped transform conflict into consensus.
This renewed partnership between youth and police is not only seen as a step toward immediate calm but also as a blueprint for long-term peacebuilding, reinforcing the vital role traditional authorities continue to play in navigating contemporary social and political tensions.
