Against the backdrop of crashing waves and sun-soaked skies, Laboma Beach became more than a holiday hotspot this Easter Monday — it became a haven for mental wellness, community bonding, and cultural rejuvenation.
Families, students, professionals, and couples flooded the beach for Picnic Day, an informal celebration of life’s simple pleasures. The event, held on the golden sands of La, Accra, saw hundreds unwind to the rhythm of Afrobeat, ocean waves, and heartfelt laughter — a collective breath of fresh air in an increasingly fast-paced city.
“It’s been hectic with exams, but today I just want to unwind,” said Ama Mensah, a university student. “The ocean breeze and the sound of waves just clears your mind.”
From toddlers chasing waves to couples strolling hand-in-hand along the shore, the event created a unique intergenerational mix. Parents reconnected with their children, young adults danced with abandon, and old friends found time to reconnect — all under the sun-drenched coastline.
“It’s therapy,” said Martha Owusu, a mother of two. “I get to relax, the kids are happy, and I’ve had time to catch up with other moms. This needs to happen more often.”
With laughter carried by the sea breeze and food shared between friends and strangers alike, the beach became a symbol of healing, unity, and cultural expression. Groups played football, barbecued, and shared homemade meals while music fueled spontaneous dancing.
What made the event even more special was its safe and well-organized setting. According to Emmanuel Arthur, Human Resource Manager of Laboma Beach, the venue deployed marine police, Ghana police officers, and lifeguards to ensure a seamless experience.
“Our priority is making this space not just fun, but safe and clean,” he said. “We’re proud to say there were no casualties, and we’re prepared to run 24/7.”
As the sun dipped below the horizon and the music soared, Laboma Beach became a reminder that in the midst of life’s stressors, shared joy, open air, and cultural traditions are powerful tools for renewal.
